You will
find the high and low temperatures for 5 cities, using the Internet, and
prepare an Excel spreadsheet and graph on the data.
1. Using
the weather worksheet similar
to the one below, write in the names of 5 cities anywhere in the world. Example:

2. Go to any of the Internet sites below and
find today’s high and low temperature for each city and write in the worksheet
above.
ü National Weather Service - www.nws.noaa.gov
ü Accuweather – www.accuweather.com
ü Weather.com – www.weather.com
ü USA Today – www.usatoday.com
ü Fox News – www.foxnews.com
ü CNN – www.cnn.com
3. Open Microsoft Excel.
4. In cell A1, type My Weather Spreadsheet.
5. In cell A3, type City
6. In cell B3, type High Temp
7. In cell c3, type Low Temp
8. In column A, begin typing the names of the
cities you selected. For example, in A4,
you would type your information in place of the Daytona example. DO NOT TYPE THE DAYTONA INFORMATION.
9. Put your name, date and assignment in the
header.
10. Save the spreadsheet – in YOUR Excel
Projects FOLDER – as Weather_yourname.
1. Merge and center your title across columns
A, B & C.
2. Click on the My Weather Spreadsheet
title.
ü Change the font to a selection of
your choice and make it size 14 and color red.
ü Shade the cell in Yellow.
ü Make the Row Height larger. Click on the line separating row 1 &
2. Drag it down to make the row larger.
3. Click on A3.
ü Click on Format, Cells, Alignment Tab. For the text alignment,
choose Center under the horizontal
menu.
ü Click on Font. Find “MS Sans Serif” and change the
font. Make it 12 in size and the color
blue. Make sure you Bold it too.
ü Do the same for cells B3 and C3.
4. Right-align rows A4 – A8.
5. Compute the Average temperature:
ü Click on A10 and type “Average”
ü Click on B10 and type the function
formula to compute the average and press Enter.
ü Copy the formula from B10 to C10.
1. Select only the cities, the high and low
temperatures
(A3:C8).
2. Click on the Chart Wizard button .
ü Choose Bar Graph, Clustered. Click on Next.
o Choose the Column button where it
says “series in”, Click Next.
ü Enter “My Weather Spreadsheet for
Name” in the Chart Title area.
ü In the Category X axis area
type: Cities
ü In the Category Y axis area
type: Temperature for (use today’s
date.)
ü Click on Data Labels and select
“Show Value” – see the changes in your chart preview to the right.
ü Click Next
ü Click Finish
3. Chart the Averages only.
ü Select B10 and C10 only.
ü Click on Chart Wizard.
ü Select Line Chart and choose the
first box of line charts. Click Next.
ü Make sure Series In has “Rows”
selected, then click Next.
ü For the Chart Title, type: Average Temperatures
o For the x axis label type: High and Low
o For the Y value label type: Temperature
o Click on the Data Label tab and
select Show Value
o Click on the Data Table tab and
select Show Data Table
ü Click on Next
ü Click on Finish
4. Print your Workbook
ü Move the Charts so that they are
side by side and below the spreadsheet.
ü Click on File, Page Setup.
o Change the Orientation to
“Landscape” and click OK.
ü Click on the Print Preview button at
the top of your screen. It looks like
this: . Your screen should look like the next page.
IF
YOUR SCREEN LOOKS LIKE THE PICTURE BELOW, YOU ARE READY TO PRINT!!!! IF NOT, YOU WILL HAVE TO CLICK ON EACH CHART
AND “SIZE” IT TO MAKE IT FIT!!!!!
ü Click on the Print Preview icon at
the top of the screen to see your workbook.
If it looks good, go ahead and click on the Print button.
