Selective Coloring Effect In Photoshop

Part 1

In this Photoshop tutorial, we'll learn an easy way to create a popular selective coloring effect, converting a photo to black and white while leaving the main subject in full color. If that sounds complicated or time consuming, it's not. In fact, as we'll see, the entire effect can be created in just a few short steps using nothing more than a selection tool, an adjustment layer and a layer mask!

• To create the effect, we'll be using a Black & White image adjustment, which means you'll need Photoshop CS3 or higher to follow along.
• You will need to click on this image.
  • When it opens up, right-click on it and select Save as Image.
  • Save in your Documents/Photoshop/
  • Then open it in photoshop.
  • Save it in your Photoshop folder as selective_coloring.jpg.

Part 2

You will be completing a second assignment similar to this one, but you will be choosing an image of yourself.

• Save it in your Photoshop folder as selective_coloring_yourname.jpg.
• Be creative. You will need to add a text layer also, with your name.
• Play around with the different types of filters. The Photo Filter is pretty cool too.
