Web Page Design - Digital Video Assignment

You are to create a video to put in your electronic portfolio. The main purpose of this assignment is to learn about file compression and file size. The larger the file size, the longer it takes to load into a browser and view. The file size needs to be small. You will get into that in the third part of your assignment. You

Learning Objectives:

Part 1 (50 points):

Storyboard - you must have a complete storyboard before you can start your video. It is important to know where you are going, or you will not know how to get there. Your video can be about anything as long as it is appropriate. You can do a LipSinc video, tell as story, create a documentary, put on a news show, etc. . . . .

Part 2 (200 points):

Create one short (4 minute maximum, 2 minute minimum) digital video. You are to use iMovie to create your video. You will video it using the storyboard your wrote in Part 1. You are to have at least one audio track. When you are completely finished with your video, you will export your video by going up to Share on the Menu bar. Choose:

  1. Export movie
  2. Name the video: portfolio_video_yourname
  3. You are to save the video in your portfolio folder
  4. Export as a medium file size
  5. Click export

Part 3 (50 points):

File compression: The overall goal is to develop videos that are:

  1. 320x240
  2. 15 frames-per-second
  3. download nicely at 230 Kbps (Kilobytes per second)
  4. No larger than 20 MB
  5. You should be able to squeeze your video down to 10 MB or less, but that will depend on the type of video you are creating. (Do not make me wait 10 minutes to watch your video.)

To accomplish this goal we will use a modern video compression scheme like MPEG4. We will go through this together in your final steps. You will export your video again by going up to Share on the Menu bar. Choose:

  1. Export using QuickTime
  2. Name the video: portfolio_video_yourname_compressed
  3. You are to save the video in your portfolio folder
  4. Where it says Export make sure it says Movie to Quicktime Movie
  5. Select the Options button
  6. Click export
