As the new school year starts, many students may be wondering how they can
prepare for college. Below are some tips and advice for
students that plan to further their education beyond high school.
- Take any college prep courses in high school
- Get involved in college prep programs such as the A+ Program and Upward
- Develop effective study habits. It is worth the time invested!
- Consider whether dual credit courses will be beneficial to take prior to college enrollment.
- Juniors and Seniors should ask their counselor about articulated credit programs available at area career centers.
- Select your program of study or research different career paths to see what you'd like to study in college.
- Take the ACT or SAT.
- Complete the FAFSA the spring before you plan to attend college. This determines whether you are eligible for federal aid (such as the Pell Grant).
- Contact admissions offices and visit potential college choices.
- Apply for admission.
- If you need accessibility services, make sure your diagnostic testing is current.
Admissions Checklist for High School Seniors at North Central Missouri College
- Complete online Admissions Application & pay the
$20 application fee
- Send official transcripts (including high school and
- Complete ACT, SAT, or COMPASS testing prior to
- Apply for financial aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Once accepted, schedule an OAR session
- Contact the Admissions Office with any additional questions (ext. 1414)

- FAFSA night is at 6:15 pm on March 4th (Will be rescheduled), in the Business Room. ALL Senior parents are invited to participate in an informational meeting regarding how to fill out the FAFSA!
- All students taking dual credit courses through Trenton (NCMC) need to have their dual credit balances paid by November 1st .
- There will be course offerings in the Spring through NCMC. Are there any specific online courses you would like to take this Spring for Dual Credit? If so, please let Mrs. Scott know.
- Anyone taking the ACT this month may get a practice packet from Mrs. Scott

- High school students and families are invited to attend Metropolitan Community College- Maple Wood’s annual EXPLORE College and Career Showcase on Tuesday, October 28th at 6:00PM *Please note registration is required for this event for your students!! Registration website: www.mcckc.edu/visitmw.
For those of you new to this event, the EXPLORE College and Career Showcase is a district-wide showcase that takes place simultaneously on all five of the Metropolitan Community College campuses. It is an opportunity for the community (including students who are planning for MCC or students still exploring) to learn about the academic and social opportunities unique to our campus here at Maple Woods. The showcase is very exciting with the opportunity for visitors to meet and mingle with current students, faculty, service departments and many others on our Maple Woods campus. See if you qualify by going to the website listed. - Each semester the Fine & Performing Arts programs at State Fair Community College host Audition for the Arts which is a scholarship interview day. This fall we will be meeting with students on Tuesday, October 21 and again in the spring on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.
Students have a unique opportunity to earn scholarships in Fine Arts, Theatre Arts, and Music Arts. They will meet with program coordinators, have their portfolios reviewed, and tour our state-of-the-art facilities. Scholarships are available to all students regardless of major.

State Fair offers competitive performance (and endowed) scholarship opportunities in addition to several tuition-waver scholarships. - AHEC Pipeline Workshop is scheduled for Monday, October 27th from 6-8pm, topic: Hospital at Home/Home Health and will be held in the main building of Heartland Health in the meeting rooms Flourish & Thrive (formerly known as the Oaks).
*There is no cost to attend this workshop*
The health care and hospital environment are changing and moving to keep patients out of the inpatient setting to receive more care in the home. Come and meet some of the professionals who currently carry out these duties and what a day in the life is like for them. We will have an APRN (Nurse Practitioner) as well as RN’s (Registered Nurses) whose career is providing health care in a home setting. Hear what their career field fully entails as well as learning through hands on activities the procedures that can be done in a patients home.
