Language Arts I
This year long course is designed as an introductory course to high school level language arts. Throughout the course, students will be re-acquainted with some basics of grammar, exposed to literature of a variety of genres, and will learn skills for composition of the basic essay. Students will be required to complete several narrative, expository, and persuasive pieces of writing using some research.

Language Arts II
Throughout the year long course, students will be re-acquainted with some basics of grammar, exposed to literature of a variety of genres, and will learn skills for composition of the basic essay. Students will be required to complete several narrative, expository, and persuasive pieces of writing using some research.

Prerequisite: Language Arts I

Language Arts III
Throughout the year long college preparation course, students will be re-acquainted with some basics of grammar, exposed to literature of a variety of genres, and will learn skills for composition of the basic essay. Students will be required to complete several narrative, expository, and persuasive pieces of writing using some research.

Prerequisite: Language Arts I & II

American Literature:
This course provides a survey of selected works in early American literature from the beginnings to 1865. Emphasis is placed on historical background, cultural context, and literary analysis of selected prose, poetry, and drama. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret, analyze, and respond to literary works in their historical and cultural contexts.

Prerequisite: Junior & Seniors only
Options: Dual Credit through Missouri Valley (3 hours)

English Literature:
This course provides a survey of selected works in British literature from the beginnings to the Romantic Period. Emphasis is placed on historical background, cultural context, and literary analysis of selected prose, poetry, and drama. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret, analyze, and respond to literary works in their historical and cultural contexts.

Prerequisite: Junior & Seniors only

College English 130 and 160
This course is an introduction to exposition and argumentative writing, emphasizing reading, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Several short papers are assigned, with emphasis on the writing process. A comprehensive portfolio is required at the end of the semester. Appropriate score on ACT or ASSET is required for initial placement. This course is a general education credit.

Prerequisite: Seniors only
Options: Dual Credit through Missouri Valley (3 hours each/6 total hours)
